York HS

Elmhurst District 205 is proud to announce that seven York Community High School seniors have been recognized as Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Program honors the academic achievements of the nation’s most promising students. More than 1.3 million juniors in approximately 21,000 high schools entered the 2026 program by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Of those students, only about 16,000 nationwide were named Semifinalists, representing the top scorers in each state.

York’s honorees are:

  • Gabriel Boutin

  • Liam Fahey

  • Caroline Hammond

  • John Kattoor

  • Colin Mahoney

  • Anand Peel

  • Alexander Sjullie

These students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for more than $28 million in National Merit Scholarships that will be awarded in the spring of 2026. To advance to Finalist standing, they must submit a detailed scholarship application, demonstrate outstanding academic performance, and earn strong recommendations.

The National Merit Scholarship Program, established in 1955, is widely regarded as one of the highest academic honors for high school students. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.

Congratulations to our York Semifinalists for their outstanding achievement!
