Parking

SENIOR PARKING CLASS OF '25
STUDENT PARKING IS LIMITED TO SENIORS ONLY

Please be advised that only students with a parking permit may park in the York student parking spaces. Students found to be parked in the lot without permission are subject to school discipline and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

York’s Parking Permits are issued through a lottery system due to the limited amount of student spaces available (156). Students who receive a spot will occupy the spot for the entire school year. All others will be placed on a waitlist.

Seniors (and students who will participate in Invite to Teach, Career Internship, or Med Careers courses) may click on the link below to fill out the form to enter the 2024-2025 Parking Lottery. The form will close on June 15, 2024. (Parking assignments will be made over the summer. Notifications will be sent via email after July 15.)

Also, please be advised that York High School does NOT have an agreement with any surrounding businesses to park in their lots. Students who park there do so at their own risk.

York does not issue temporary parking permits for the following: Participation in sports, before and after school activities, work related issues, doctor’s appointments, sudden changes in transportation to and from school. Students and parents will need to make arrangements or check bus routes.

Students may consider carpooling to reduce traffic congestion during arrival/dismissal times. Students, families, and staff need to understand that there is increased traffic in the community and they need to be prepared for extra travel time at the start and end of the school day. Driving defensively and cooperating with one another will greatly assist with the overall safety of arrival and dismissal.

If you have questions concerning parking, please contact Dean Tonja Killingham at tkillingham@elmhurst205.org.

Parking Permit Rules

York Community High School District 205 believes the potential for student learning is enhanced in an environment, which is safe, protected, and controlled.

A STUDENT MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE AND SCHOOL ID WHEN PICKING UP A PARKING PERMIT. PURCHASING A PARKING PERMIT FOR ANOTHER STUDENT OR IN THEIR NAME IS NOT ALLOWED. All STUDENT FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL OR PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS MADE PRIOR TO PURCHASING A PARKING PERMIT.

  1. All Rules of the Road apply when driving on York Community High School property.  Posted speed limits, road signs, and parking restrictions are in effect each and every day.  Students may only park in designated student areas. Parking outside the designated York Community High School student parking lots, such as on city streets, neighborhoods, and/or other parking lots outside school property on school days and during school hours, may result in vehicles being cited and towed by the Elmhurst Police Department.  Careful and considerate driving practices are an expectation.  Violations will result in parking permits being revoked. Student vehicles should be locked at all times. Report all accidents, break-ins, and/or vandalism immediately to School Resource Officer Wes Hoye 630-617-2326.

  1. Sharing, loaning, and/or transferring Parking Permit and/or privileges are not permitted and will result in Parking Permit being revoked.  Only one parking permit is issued per student, to one registered vehicle either owned by that student or an immediate family member (parent/guardian).  Only one parking permit is issued per licensed driver.

  1. Parking Permit Replacements – Students will be issued only one Parking Permit replacement. (A fee of $15 will be charged to your PUSHCOIN account). Please see your dean for a replacement.

  1. Mid-year graduates are required to turn a parking permit to their Dean at the conclusion of their first semester.

  2. All York Community High School students are expected to maintain  excellent attendance. A student’s parking privileges may be rescinded as a means of improving the student’s attendance.  Students   chronically late to their first period/hour class, or caught leaving early from any class, may result in having their Parking Permit revoked.

  3. Student(s) found in a car during school hours (without school permission) may have his/her parking permit revoked and disciplinary action is taken.

  1. The online registration form serves as a confirmation of York’s policy and rules regarding parking. (Please note, the form is only accessible through a York Community High School account.)

  1. The permit MUST be displayed on rear view mirror.

  1. JUNIORS/SOPHOMORES/FRESHMEN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE TO SCHOOL without prior school administration permission. Parking in the lots at York Community High School without a valid parking permit displayed in the appropriate area will result in one or all of the following consequences: disciplinary action, a ticket being issued, inability to enter the parking lottery during senior year, and/or the car being towed.

PARENT/GUARDIAN, PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Your child understands driving and parking in the assigned student lot at York Community High School property/premises is a privilege, not a right.

  1. York Community High School may revoke this privilege at any time due to parking and/or other York Community High School policy infractions.  The parking permit fee is non-refundable and; by applying for and accepting a York Community High School Parking Permit, your student consents to the search of his/her automobile while it is parked on York Community High School property/premises.
