District 205 is excited to welcome all students back to campus full-time, five days per week beginning April 12, 2021. Our principals have already started sharing details for each campus. As a reminder, all families who are currently enrolled in remote learning have another opportunity to select in-person learning. This selection will be for the remainder of the school year. Here are the steps to follow to change your selection:

Elementary (Grades K-5)
Families of elementary students (Grades K-5) who are currently enrolled in remote learning may change their selection to in-person learning for the remainder of the school year by contacting your child’s school by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021. The office team will help you change your selection. If you do not wish to change your child's learning status, no additional action is needed.

Secondary (Grades 6-12)
Families of students in Grades 6-12 who are currently enrolled in remote learning may change their selection to in-person for the rest of the school year by filling out a form in PowerSchool, which is due at 5 pm on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. If you do not wish to change your child's learning group, you do not need to complete this form. Directions and links to PowerSchool are available at the end of this communication.

If you wish to change your child's group to fully remote (without extracurriculars), you do not need to fill out this form. Contact your child's school directly.

Families of students in Grades 6-12 selecting in-person learning or whose students participate in extracurricular activities on campus must also complete a COVID screening waiver, which is included in the form. Click here for more information about the district's saliva screening program.

Attendance Expectations for Students in Grades K-12:
Please also note the following attendance expectations for in-person students:

  1. Beginning March 15th, students enrolled to attend in person who do not attend in person (without an extenuating circumstance*, such as illness/quarantine), will be marked absent (unexcused).
  2. In-person students who have unexcused absences for 3 or more days in a week, without an extenuating circumstance, will transition to remote status for the remainder of the 20-21 school year.
  3. Students enrolled in in-person learning should not join class remotely on a day scheduled for in-person learning without approval by the school administration, which also applies to vacations.
  4. Please note that remote learning will not be provided during vacation. If a parent decides to take a vacation when school is scheduled, parents/guardians are asked to contact the school principal in advance of the planned absence.

Extenuating Circumstances
In general, the following will be considered as extenuating circumstances:

  1. COVID-related illness by the student or the student’s family
  2. Required or recommended quarantine (due to COVID exposure or after travel)
  3. High levels of illness in the child’s classroom or grade level.

Accessing the Form in PowerSchool (Grades 6-12 Only)
We have chosen PowerSchool, D205’s Student Information System, as the platform for the selection form over a Google form or Survey Monkey in order to tie responses directly to each student’s identification number. This not only protects the privacy of each selection but also avoids manual entry errors. Finally, PowerSchool will allow the selection to be entered, recorded, and processed in one system.

  1. To indicate your choice, fill out the form called “Additional Grades 6-12 In-Person Selection & COVID-19 Testing Consent Form” in the PowerSchool parent portal by logging in, going to “Forms,” and submitting the form (steps here or in this short sample video). Please note that you cannot use the mobile app - you must access the full PowerSchool site using whatever device you prefer.

  2. Contact your child’s school if you need help accessing the PowerSchool parent portal.

  3. You must fill this form out separately for each student in Grades 6 through 12.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this information. Your support has been greatly appreciated as we continue to increase learning opportunities for students. Another reminder will be shared on April 5 following Spring Break. Until that time, please enjoy your families as we all take some downtime and return for a strong finish to the 2020-21 school year.
