Silverado Jr. Begins!!

Dear Fifth Grade Families,

For many years, Lincoln School has partnered with Silverado Grill and Community Bank of Elmhurst to provide our fifth grade students with a unique learning experience. This opportunity, known as Silverado Jr., allows students to utilize skills learned within math and language arts in a real-world learning experience of owning a business. Any proceeds of this project are donated to a charity chosen by the 5th grade class. As a 5th grade group, we have begun working on this project and are excited to share the details with you.

Ultimately, students will be responsible for making decisions and solving problems that business owners make each day. The project will culminate with our 5th grade students running Silverado Grill, on Spring Road, for one Sunday afternoon! Students will complete the following tasks throughout this process:

·         Choose a charity for potential proceeds

·         Plan a menu using knowledge of customer preferences and restaurant requirements

·         Price items based on calculated projected cost and income

·         Develop and implement a survey

·         Read and analyze data

·         Review invoices

·         Create and present a Google slide presentation to secure a bank loan for deposit

·         Design a logo and menu for project

·         Serve family members at event

A successful restaurant needs customers and that is where you come in! The final event in our Silverado Jr. experience is a luncheon for families scheduled in late April or May.  We will be having three seatings at 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2:00 PM.  Each student will be scheduled to serve at one of the seatings.  Please be on the lookout for more information.

This is a busy and exciting time in 5th grade! We are looking forward to sharing more information with you soon!

Sincerely,

The Lincoln School Silverado Jr. Staff
