Language Arts – We continue to work on MAIN IDEA and DETAILS.  The children are reading non-fiction texts, picking out the main idea and details.  The children are getting better at this.  I am also assessing the children and should have their new scores to you by the end of next week!

Writing: We are finishing up our digestive system writing.  The kids have been having a lot of fun writing about this.  I am loving reading and editing these.  We are also writing about Matt Wilhelm, the awesome BMX biker who taught us more than riding a bike.  I will send these home and will also send a copy to Matt.  He was great.

Cursive-  We are still working on our lowercase letters.  The children are enjoying it and really working hard.  They feel very grown up!

Math- We are concentrating on subtraction and regrouping (borrowing).  I am trying to get the children to really understand that we break up a 10 or 100 and add it to the other column.

MATH FACTS- I want the children to start practicing, the basics.  Facts to 20.  We use two great games on the iPods that you can download on an iPhone, iPad or tablet.

  • Mathmateer
  • Math Bingo – ABC-ya
  • XtraMath- I just signed up everyone to an account

You can also find many more games beside these, but these are great. You can also practice using flashcards, math sheets, or just writing these on a piece of paper.  I will send home some papers if you want them.  Here is a website where you can print free ones too.

I want them to try and do 5-10 minutes a night on facts.  This will help them when it comes to bigger concepts if they know their basic facts quickly.  I will have the check off sheet on the back of the weekly Reading Minutes.  THANK YOU!

Spelling- Keep working on the sorts, patterns and try to get on Spelling City!

Science-We continue to master the Digestive System. We are going to build our Digestive System. The children are doing great on their systems.

Please feel free to send in any of these materials:

Straws

Baggies

Really just objects from around the house that you don’t want back…be creative!
